AFP (Alpha FetoProtein) test is used to detect certain liver tumors and germ cell tumors such as those of the testes and ovaries. It also helps in monitoring treatment effectiveness and detecting tumor recurrence after recovery.
Levels may also be elevated in chronic liver diseases such as hepatitis or cirrhosis.
